“World” Music

Variety is the spice of life, and so too is music. I feel that it is always great to expand your tastes, so here are a few international artists to check out.

Sounds of the desert leave me feeling energetic and spiritual.

Mauritania is a country that few people know about, and this is especially true in regard to music artists. However, despite that, this northwest African country does have a rising star. Noura Mint Seymali is a “Griot” as in a folk storyteller common among the indigenous Tuareg and Beber people of North Africa. She combines jazz as well as traditional Mauratanian folk music into something I just found so groovy. Songs include “Tzenni” “Arbina” and “Soub Hannalah”

Indonesian rockers making a big dent

KPR is known in Indonesia for challenging social norms with their upbeat, punk rock-inspired rhythms. Perfect for working out, moving your feet, or just having an energetic outburst of energy. My digs include “Mati Muda” and “Dimana Mereka”
